RCN To Host Hitting Clinic with Red Sox Legend Jim Rice

West Roxbury Youth to Learn Major League Hitting Tips

BOSTON - June 20, 2008 - RCN, a local leading provider of fiber optic triple-play high-speed internet, digital television and phone services, will host a hitting clinic with Red Sox legend and RCN spokesman Jim Rice on June 27, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Guy Cammarata Little League Complex in West Roxbury.

RCN, in conjunction with the Parkway Little League and Radio 92.9, invites kids and parents from the West Roxbury community and beyond to come to the Guy Cammarata Complex on June 27 to meet Jim Rice and enjoy a day of family fun, music and giveaways. From 1-2 p.m., Rice will spend time with the young baseball enthusiasts, providing hitting pointers and instruction to those interested in getting first hand information from one of baseball's all time greatest hitters. Rice will also be available to sign photos for the kids and families who stop by.

"RCN is excited to introduce our spokesman, Jim Rice, to the children and families of West Roxbury," said Richard Wadman, General Manager of RCN Boston. "It is a thrill to be able to offer kids the once in a lifetime opportunity of hitting baseballs with a Red Sox legend. It is a great way to say thank you to our customers, enjoy the summer weather, and have a day of fun with the entire community. RCN is committed to the communities we serve and we understand the importance of being a good neighborhood partner. We hope you will join us on June 27th."

The RCN Free Ice Cream Truck will also be on hand to provide cool treats. RCN's free ice cream truck visits neighborhoods and community events throughout the summer to hand out free ice cream to residents and provide them with information describing RCN's signature services.

Jim Rice spent his entire 16-year career - 1974 through 1989 - with the Boston Red Sox. Rice has proven to be one of the great Red Sox and baseball players of all time. He has remained closely involved with the Red Sox organization - holding several coaching and commentator positions for New England Sports Network - since ending his playing career in 1989. RCN's partnership with Rice allows RCN to use his name, image and likeness exclusively for two years. He will make several appearances throughout the year and will represent RCN in radio, television, print and Internet advertisements.
