LEHIGH VALLEY, PA, May 21, 2009 -- RCN Pennsylvania, a local market of RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of all-digital and high definition video, high-speed internet, and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers, as well as high-capacity transport services to carrier and large enterprise customers, announced that it is Maestro Sponsor of Mayfair Festival of the Arts, being held May 21-25 at Cedar Beach Park in Allentown.
The Mayfair Festival of the Arts www.mayfairfestival.org is a Lehigh Valley Memorial Day tradition. Since 1986, Mayfair transforms Allentown's scenic Cedar Beach Park for five days in May, into a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and smells-Renaissance style tents, Berman Sculptures, wandering minstrels, dancers, storytellers, art exhibits, local and national musical acts, hands-on crafts demonstrations, and culinary delights.
"Because of RCN's commitment to the local communities we serve, we're very proud and pleased to be a Maestro Sponsor of the Lehigh Valley's premier outdoor arts and crafts, music, and food festival," said RCN President of Residential Markets and Pennsylvania General Manager, John Filipowicz. "Like Mayfair, RCN prides itself in providing a wide diversity in entertainment choices for our Lehigh Valley customers."
This year's event features The Moving Wall, a half size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial which has been touring the country for more than twenty years. This "portable" wall went on display for the first time in Tyler Texas, October of 1984 and has been traveling the USA from April through November ever since. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, USA, "The Wall" now has carved into it the names of the 58,260 American military personnel (eight were women) who were direct casualties of the Vietnam war, including about 1,300 who are still considered Missing In Action (MIA). The Wall will be across Ott Street west of Cedar Beach Park with no admission and available to view 24-hours a day during the Festival dates.
Mayfair will also feature Sommerfest, a festival within a festival celebrating Germanic heritage and culture.
Notable music acts during Mayfair include Elliot Yamin, Kevin Rudolf, Lesley Roy and V Factory on the Cabaret Stage for B104 Night, Friday, May 22. Other highlights include performances by The Fabulous Greaseband, Civic Theater of Allentown, Repertory Dance Theatre, The Allentown Band, Freddy Award winners and local favorites like Sara Ayers, Donovan Roberts, Bluzin, Todd Wolfe and more. Another great feature of Mayfair are the contests - come out and watch the Hot Dog Contest, Breakdance Challenge, Mr. Mayfair competition and Mayfair Idol.
Admission is $5 ($4 in advance) and is good for all 5 days of the Festival - come one day or all five!
